Hollywood superstar Hugh Jackman recently had his sixth skin cancer removed. The “Wolverine” star took to Twitter on Tuesday to reveal that he is undergoing treatment for basal cell carcinoma, again. The actor also advised people to use sunscreen.
The 48-year-old actor had his first skin cancer removed from his nose in 2013, when his wife Deborra-Lee Furness told him to go to the doctors to get a mole checked.
He was then diagnosed with basal cell carcinoma, an uncontrolled growth which can look like an open sore or a red patch, or appear as a shiny bump or scar.
This type of cancer, according to the Skin Cancer Foundation, is “usually caused by a combination of cumulative and intense, occasional sun exposure”.
The star has been using social media to raise alertness of the dangers of unprotected sun exposure.“Deb said to get the mark on my nose checked. Boy, was she right!,” the actor first wrote back in 2013.
“Please don’t be foolish like me. Get yourself checked. And USE sunscreen!!!”
The Australian actor is famous for his portrayal of comic book hero Wolverine in the X-Men series, a mutant known for his metal claws and fast healing powers.
He will be seen next in "Logan" which is slated to release on March.
