After singer Sonu Nigam’s controversial tweet on azaan, lyricist and poet Javed Akhtar has spoken on loudspeakers being used in mosques. Sonu Nigam created much buzz in 2017 when he said that he was 'annoyed' by the sound of the morning Azaan on loudspeaker. The singer hated it so much that he called it "gundagardi". Now, Javed Akhtar has come out in full support of the playback singer saying that loudspeakers should not be used by the mosque or any place of worship.

Taking to his Twitter account, Javed Akhtar wrote, “This is to put on record that I totally agree with all those including Sonu Nigam who want that loudspeakers should not be used by the mosques and for that matter by any place of worship in residential areas".

As soon as Javed Akhtar’s tweet hit the internet there was complete buzz everywhere.

While several members of the social media were all praise for the poet, some users started slamming Javed Akhtar calling him a hypocrite.

Recently, Javed Akhtar saw Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Padmaavat along with wife Shabana Azmi at the special screening. The lyricist was completely bowled over by the experience. He even questioned that why protesters are against this film that pays "homage to the valour and integrity of the Rajput community."

"I saw the film and I feel it is among the most accomplished achievements I've seen in Indian cinema in recent times. I fail to understand what the protesters are protesting against," asked Akhtar.

"The film is a passionate unadulterated homage to the valour and integrity of the Rajput community. Not a word, not a frame in the film is an insult to the community. In fact it is insulting to the film to suggest that it in any way insults the very community it honours," he added.
