The Calcutta High Court has asked the producer of Housefull to do away with the remixed version of Apni toh jaise taise by Sunday.

The Calcutta High Court on Friday restrained producer Sajid Nadiadwala from the cinematic use of the remixed version of the song Apni toh jaise taise, from the late Prakash Mehra's 1981 blockbuster Laawaris, in his new film Housefull. According to Mehra's sons, the remixed version from Housefull, directed by Sajid Khan, has to be deleted by Sunday.
Nadiadwala's counsel had earlier stated that they had bought the rights from music company Saregama India Ltd, which claimed to have the rights to the Laawaris songs.
Mehra's sons Punit and Amit, who had filed a suit before the court claiming that the right to the lyrics remained with them since their father wrote the song, are in a jubilant mood.
Amit says, "What was done was unethical. We are very upset about it. That is why we filed a legal complaint. In fact, we gave Saregama and Nadiadwala a lot of time to settle this matter. When we wrote to them expressing our displeasure, neither of the two parties bothered to reply. However, we are now breathing free as justice has come at the right time."
However, Amit does not rule out an out-of-court settlement between the warring parties. Would the Mehras be okay if Nadiadwala offered them a suitable compensation, we asked? Amit replies, "Let's see. We have still to decide what we need to do next. I will have to speak to my lawyers about this. As of now, Nadiadwala has to delete the song in the next 48 hours."
Nadiadwala says, “I have heard about this but am yet to receive an official intimation from the court. I had officially bought the rights from Saregama, so now it will obviously be their problem too on how to crack this.”
