Hasee Toh Phasee movie review: It's just Parineeti-Siddhath's chemistry which works

Hasee Toh Phasee totally relies upon Parineeti Chopra and Siddhath Malhotra's chuckling chemistry Ratings-**1/2Stars- Parineeti Chopra, Siddharth Malhotra, Adah ShahDirector- Vinil MathewMusic director- Vishal & ShekharHasee to Phasee isn't that smartly played drama as it seems. Vinil Mathew, the debutant director mashes philosophy, romance, emotional drama and humour in his flick that takes you nowhere. A mature outcome in the end was expected from this drama. As in the past, Dharma Productions has come up with movies that had social messages in the end. Here one of those situation is kept at fore, which is neither described nor is dealt methodologically. The tale of two decades commencing from Mita's (Parineeti Chopra) teenage tech innocence to falling for Nikhil (Siddharth Malhotra) is semi-cooked. Mita, a science freak, is a misfit in her rich Gujarati family and so she runs away for making big in none other than China but comes back to just bring trouble in Nikhil's life. Nikhil, on the other side, is struggling to get a breakthrough in his career even after getting engaged with Mita's elder sister Karishma (Adah Shah) who is pressurising him to earn big.Biggest problem lies in, is the setting of this plot, which takes up a stretched first half of the movie. Vinil brings in a couple of songs unnecessarily to make audience feel that it's also a Karan Johar flick. The dates mentioned in the starting of few sequences were not required at all.What also perturbs the flow is chunks of every possible section a flick could have. However, Karan Johar's trademark flashy sets are limited, but you are still not spared from the boring ‘Shaadi Ka Mahaul' feeling in the flick. Clearly, the confusions in the life of our protagonists aren't solved and are provided a forced solution.During all this, what works most is the chemistry between the lead couple who tries to be practical as much as possible even if the screenplay doesn't allow them to. They try to solve the confusions and hurdles they are dealing with in their personal lives. Even if all those problems presented are half-baked, you understand them with the compatibility the two share.Parineeti takes the lead among all once again. But she is not the same as she was in all her Yash Raj's flicks. She tickles your funny bone as a chemical engineer, while she guides Siddharth at different occasions looks believable.Siddharth might have failed to dance like the legendary Shammi Kapoor in this drama but matches Parineeti's steps equally in acting department.Adah Shah is good in her act. Manoj Joshi is brilliant as a disciplined father. Music by Vishal-Shekhar possesses energy. Tracks namely Drama Queen and Zehnaseeb are my favourite.I' ll go with two and a half star for ‘Hasee Toh Phasee'. The movie could be watched for Parineeti-Siddharth's chuckling chemistry.
