Bengali film 'Antaheen' by director Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury was chosen as the Best Film while Tamil filmmaker Bala won the honour of Best Director for his film 'Naan Kadavul' at the 56th National Film Awards announced on Saturday in New Delhi.
'Antaheen', starring Sharmila Tagore, Rahul Bose, Aparna Sen and Radhika Apte, is a relationship drama.
The award for Best Actor went to Upendra Limaye for Marathi film 'Jogwa', which also fetched the trophy for the Best film on social issues. Hindi film 'Oye Lucky Oye' by Dibakar Banerjee was adjudged as the Best Popular Film.
Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra bagged the Best Actress award for her role of a aspiring model in Madhur Bhandarkar's 'Fashion' which also bagged the Best Supporting Actress Award for Kangana Ranaut who played the role of a troubled model.
Actor Arjun Rampal won the award for Best Supporting Actor for his role of a failed rocker in 'Rock On'.
Shreya Ghoshal won the Best Female Playback award for 'Antaheen' and 'Jogwa', which also brought the Best Male Playback Singer award to Hariharan.
Kannada film 'Gubbachigalu' was adjudged the Best Children's film. The award for Best Special Effects went to 'Mumbai Meri Jaan'.
Malayalam film 'Bioscope' won the Best Jury Award while the trophy for Best Music Direction went to Shams Patel for Hindi film 'Thanks Maa'.
An ecstatic Priyanka Chopra, who won the Best Actress award at the 56th National Film Awards on Saturday for Madhur Bhandarkar's 'Fashion' thanked the almighty God for the coveted honour.
In a post on micro-blogging website Twitter after the win, Priyanka who portrayed the role of a aspiring model in the film, wrote, "Won the National Award for fashion! Aaaaaaaahhhh! Too excited!! God is kind and so are all of u!(sic)."
The 27-year-old actress also thanked her cast and congratulated her co-star Kangna Ranaut who bagged the National award for the Best Supporting actress for the same film. "Thank u Madhur Ronnie Kangana Mughda Arjan Arbaaz and the cast n crew!! A huge shout to my team and all of u!! God is kind!!! Yaaaaayyy!!,(sic)" Priyanka wrote on Twitter.
"Congrats Kangana!! I void not have been Meghna Mathur without u!! U deserve it!!!(sic)," the former Beauty queen wrote in another post. Based on the dark side of the world of fashion, the movie tell the stories of rise and falls in the glamour world through the eyes of the protagonist played by Priyanka Chopra. In a recent post, Priyanka tweeted to her co-star, "@kangna_ranaut congrats babe !!! We did it!!!".
"It feels amazing", from Bollywood stars Priyanka Chopra and Rahul Bose, to the makers of 'Oye Lucky Lucky Oye' and Rock On', the National award winners echoed similar sentiments after grabbing the honours at the 56th National Film awards, announced in Mumbai on Saturday .
Former Beauty queen Priyanka Chopra, who won the Best Actress award for portraying the role of an aspiring model in 'Fashion' told PTI, "It's an amazing feeling to win this award and it is the highest honour for an actor in India. People are asking if I was expecting it right from the time 'Fashion' received and got such good critical and commercial acclaim."

Actor Rahul Bose who portrayed the role of an IPS Officer in Bengali film 'Antaheen' which was adjudged the best movie said, "It's amazing, it seems that Bengali films are getting best films hand over fist. Kalpurush got it in 2006 and now Antaheen." The virtual love story directed by young director Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury is Bose's second outing with him, after working together in his first film 'Anuranan'.
"I am really happy about Anniruddha whose pet name is Tony. My god at such young age, his second film has got the national award for the best film. It's astonishing and I feel so proud," Bose said.
National-award winning director Madhur Bhandarkar, whose film 'Fashion' that portrayed the dark side of the glamour world, grabbed two awards said, "I am very glad that my work his yet again appreciated. I believe National Award is the Oscar of India and there is no bigger achievement then this."
''Rock On' producer Ritesh Sidhwani, whose film fetched the award for Best Hindi Film and Best Supporting actor for Arjun Rampal said, he is at a loss of words to describe the joy. "I think I am at a loss of words, the National award is equivalent to the Oscars.
We are celebrating ten years of Excel entertainment and we won our last award for 'Dil Chahta Hai' ten years ago. It's extremely gratifying and a great feeling," Sidhwani told PTI. Singer Hariharan, who won the Best playback male singer award for Marathi movie 'Jogva', said, "I am very happy after winning the award. National awards hold a special importance for me since it is an all-India award given to artists. Earlier, I had got one for a Hindi film, now for a Marathi film. I hope to get my next award for a Tamil song." PTI
