Karan Johar is all set to produce another film starring Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt along with Aditya Roy Kapur. The film which has been tentatively titled Shiddat will be directed by Abhishek Varman and is set to go on floors from next year. The movie whose sets are being erected in the Film City will also reunite Sanjay Dutt and Sridevi after 25 long years.

The two stars were last seen in Mahesh Bhatt's 1993 film Gumrah which was also produced by Dharma Productions. Ace designer Manish Malhotra is designing the looks of entire cast of the period film which dates back to the 1940s.

A source told Pinkvilla that Sanju is playing a rich businessman from Lahore while Sridevi will be his wife. They will be parents of Varun and Aditya. ''Shiddat is a big budget period drama, and a love triangle between Varun, Alia, and Aditya is set against the backdrop of the 1947 India-Pakistan partition. Few know that the film was Karan’s father Yash Johar’s dream project which the filmmaker had spent three months in Lahore researching on. There is a hero and anti-hero in the male leads and buzz is that Varun plays the anti-hero with grey shades while Aditya has been finalized to play the good guy and Madhuri Dixit Nene plays Alia’s mother. Even Sonakshi Sinha has a strong cameo in the film,'' the source further added.

This year in October, Karan Johar took to Twitter to announce the release date of Shiddat, i.e., April 19, 2019. This made many to think that the film's name is Good Friday, however, the director in another tweet refuted all rumours circulating on social media.
