Shashi Kapoor, the phenomenal actor and director passed away at the age of 79 leaving behind a rich cinematic legacy to follow. The actor breathed his last at Mumbai's Kolkilaben Hospital. The actor was ill from quite a long time and hence was admitted to the hospital. Shashi Kapoor who has worked in around 116 movies has thrice received National Award.

He entered the Bollywood as a child artist in the late 1940s and appeared in Sangram (1950) and Dana Paani (1953). Some of his best performances were in 1948 film Aag and 1951 Awaara. He also worked as an assistant director in movie, post Box 999 which was also the Bollywood debut of Sunil Dutt. Balbir Raj Kapoor, which was Shashi Kapoor's real name debuted with Dharmputra and went on to give blockbusters such as Deewar, Satyam Shivam Sundaram, Kabhi Kabhie among others. Shashi Kapoor was honoured with  Padma Bhushan in 2011 for his contributions to Art-Cinema. In 2015, he was awarded the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, making him the third member of the Kapoor family to receive the highest award in Indian Cinema, after his father and brother Prithviraj Kapoor and Raj Kapoor, respectively. ​
