A Facebook post by actress Renuka Shahane, best known for her role in the 1994 blockbuster ‘Hum Aapke Hai Koun’, is going viral for all the right reasons. In her post dated August 11, Renuka offered activist Irom Sharmila to come and stay in her home, if no one is willing to house her.

Irom Sharmila, dubbed the ‘Iron Lady of Manipur’, broke her 16-year-long fast earlier this week with a dab of honey. She has been protesting against the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA) for many years. As shocking as it may seem, her own people shunned her once she ended the fast and is back to the JNIMS hospital which has been her home many years now.

It was at the security ward of this hospital where she was force fed during her agitation days. Seeing her condition, the Manipur chapter of the red cross society decided to give her a place to stay till she found some alternative.

Irom, obviously heatrtbroken to see that the ones for whom she stood for rejected her had said that she has not given up the fight, but changed the antics.

“I want them so much to know me, not their version of me. Their harsh reaction to an innocent human being... They were very harsh,” Irom had said.

It must have been the 44-year-old’s anger which compelled Renuka to write a scathing post on Facebook. In her post, she came down heavily on all those who stood by Irom only when the latter had tubes attached to her nose. Calling out the hypocrisy of this entire incident, Renuka called it difficult and painful.
