Pehredaar Piya Ki goes off air, here’s what happened

Sony TV's daily soap Pehredaar Piya Ki received flak for showing a 9-year-old boy falling for an 18-year-old girl, and subsequently getting married to her.

Ever since Sony Tv’s daily soap Pehredaar Piya Ki was aired, the show received flak from the audiences because of its controversial subject. Not only this, viewers also signed an online petition demanding ban on it. Now, Pehredaar Piya Ki has finally gone off air and no episode was aired yesterday. The cast and crew of the show will surely be in shock as it was being heard that the daily soap will have a time leap. However, things are pretty much clear now.

"We are pulling off our programme Pehredaar Piya Ki from television. While we understand that the decision to end this serial will be disappointing to those whose creative energies are vested in it, namely, its crew and cast, we (as a channel) are convinced that we will be better served by focusing instead on developing viewer interest in our upcoming, new shows," read an official statement issued on behalf of the channel, quoted IANS. The development was effective from Monday.

 

The show raised many eyebrows because of its cringeworthy story where a 9-years-old gets married to a girl almost double of his age. From a kid stalking a lady to showing their wedding night sequence, the show had many objectionable scenes. Viewers signed a petition addressing Union Cabinet Minister of Textiles and Information and Broadcasting, Smriti Zubin Irani to ban the show. The latter also responded and wrote to took immediate action against it.

Not only audiences but TV celebs have also criticised Pehredaar Piya Ki. Karan Wahi lashed out at the makers and asked them not to sell stupidity on the name of TV show.

 

Now, the show is finally off air, it is yet to be seen how the cast react to this news.
