In a shocking incident, Dangal fame actress Zaira Wasim escaped a mishap on Thursday. She was travelling along with her friend Arif Ahmad on Boulevard road when their car skidded off the road and fell into the Dal Lake, fresh reports suggest.

The actress miraculously rescued by locals in Srinagar, the reported added. It was only after the timely intervention of the locals that both of them were rescued, a media report said. “Both of them survived but her friend suffered several injuries,” according to the report Locals said the vehicle was moving at a high speed and the driver lost control over it. "Locals immediately rescued her and her companion. She escaped unhurt, but her companion sustained injuries in the accident," a local said.

According to the report quoting official sources, the vehicle in which she was travelling belongs to a politician who at the time of the incident was not in the city. The 16-year-old actress who has been in public eye for controversial reasons earlier also, is yet to respond on this late night accident. Zaira had faced severe backlash after she met J&K CM Mehbooba Mufti in January. She was forced to apologise in a Facebook post which she later deleted. While the severity of the backlash took many Indians by surprise, it is necessary to understand how art has suffered over the past two decades due to the insurgency in the Valley.

Zaira Wasim was last seen in Aamir Khan’s blockbuster Dangal which is based on the life of wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat and his daughters Geeta and Babita, was one of the biggest hits of 2016. Many actors won critical appreciation for their performance in the film, that released in December last year. Zaira, too won the best supporting actress award for her portrayal of young Geeta Phogat
