Karnataka: As Congress' tussle for the next chief minister continues, both the aspirants DK Shivakumar and Siddaramaiah on Tuesday held separate meetings with party chief Mallikarjun Kharge telling him why they should be made chief minister. Meanwhile, the party also held hectic consultations to decide on who would lead the government in the southern state. Former party chief Rahul Gandhi also drove to Kharge's residence this morning and held an over 90-minute meeting. The two leaders discussed the issue of chief ministership and modalities of government formation in Karnataka after the party staged a stunning victory in the May 10 assembly polls in which Congress won 135 out of 224 seats. According to sources, DK Shivakumar is adamant on being the CM or else he will remain only an MLA while Siddaramaiah has conveyed it to Kharge that he has the support of most of the MLAs and given his age, he should be considered for the CM post.

DK Shivakumar tells Kharge he should be made CM, say sources

During his meeting with Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, DK Shivakumar told him that he should be made the next chief minister.

Siddaramaiah has been CM before, Congress party gave him the highest position and made him the CLP leader, now it is his turn, Shivakumar said.

This time the party has also got a share of the Vokkaliga and Lingayat vote share along with Dalit, Muslim, and OBC... young voters have chosen Congress, so now a new leadership should be given to the party... if Siddaramaiah is made CM then the party won't get Lingayat votes in 2024 because they don't like Siddaramaiah, he said.

In 2019, when the party was completely disintegrated after the discord, I took over the party and took it to this victory... the party should respect my contribution, he asserted.
