Punjab: EC orders repolling for Zila Parishad & Panchayat Samiti elections in 28 polling booths

In Mansa district, the highest polling of 71.66 per cent was observed. The lowest polling  was in Tarn Taran at 43.77 per cent.

The Election Commission has ordered repolling for Zila Parishad and Panchayat Samiti elections in 28 polling booths across seven districts in Punjab. Repolling will take place on Friday.

On Wednesday, polling took place amid some incidents of clashes between Congress and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) workers and allegations of poll rigging by opposition parties.

On Wednesday, at 8 am, voting began and went on till 4 pm, a spokesman of Punjab State Election Office said. The counting of votes will take place on Saturday.

During the polls, an average 58.10 per cent voting was witnessed.

The number of registered voters stands at 1,27,87,395. In Mansa district, the highest polling of 71.66 per cent was observed. The lowest polling was in Tarn Taran at 43.77 per cent.
