The counting of votes will take place on Thursday for bypolls to 4 Lok Sabha seats- Kairana (UP), Bhandara-Gondiya (Maharashtra), Palghar (Maharashtra) and Nagaland.
The votes will also be counted today for 10 assembly seats - Noorpur (Uttar Pradesh), Maheshtala (West Bengal), Ampati (Meghalaya), Tharali(Uttarakhand), Chengannur (Kerala), Jokihat (Bihar), Gomia (Jharkhand), Silli (Jharkhand), Shahkot (Punjab) and RR Nagar (Karnataka).
The bypolls for all these seats were held on May 28.
The counting of votes will start from 8 am in the morning. According to reports, elaborate security arrangements have been made around all the counting centres.
The results of Bhandara-Gondiya and Palghar Lok Sabha seats in Maharashtra are important for all four major political parties- BJP, Shiv Sena, Congress and NCP- of the state as the outcome is likely to have a bearing on their future course.
In UP, the outcome of the Kairana bye-election will show if the ruling BJP manages to break its losing streak this year in Lok Sabha bypolls held in the state previously or hands over a hat-trick to the opposition.
The by-election for the Nagaland seat was necessitated after the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) leader Neiphiu Rio, now chief minister of Nagaland, resigned as a Lok Sabha member in February.
From Palus-Kadegaon assembly constituency in Maharashtra, the Election Commission declared Congress candidate Vishwajeet Kadam elected unopposed after the BJP withdrew its candidate. The bypoll to Palus-Kadegaon was necessitated after the death of Congress candidate Patangrao Kadam, who won the constituency in 2009 and 2014. Vishwajeet Kadam, the Congress candidate, is the son of late Patangrao Kadam.
