With the all-important polls just a few days away, people need to ready themselves up to vote and let the mandate, and only the mandate, rule.

The Lok Sabha polls 2019 will be held in seven phases from mid-April and the results will be announced on May 23. Voting will be held across India on April 11, April 18, April 23, April 29, May 6, May 12 and May 19. 

Elections will also be held in four states -- Andhra Pradesh, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh and Odisha -- along with the parliamentary polls.

While having a valid and functional voter identity card is of prime importance, people need to ensure their respective names are on the voter list and all their details are up to date.

Here are the steps you need to follow to check if your name is present on the electoral rolls in India:

Go to the National Voter Services Portal's (NVSP) Electoral Search page electoralsearch.in to see your if you are registered to vote. If your name appears in the list, you are eligible to vote, otherwise, you need to register at www.nvsp.in.

You can search for your name on the voter list by two ways -- by entering all of your details or simply by entering your EPIC number, which is mentioned in bold letters on your voter identity card.

How to check one's name on voter list

-- If you have the EPIC number mentioned on your voter ID:

-Visit NVSP Electoral Search page
-Click on Search by EPIC No option
-Enter your EPIC number; select the state from the drop-down menu, and enter the code you see on the image and click on Search

-- If you don't have your EPIC number:

-Go to NVSP Electoral Search page
-Click on Search by Details
-Fill all details including your name, gender, age, assembly constituency, etc as given on the page. Then enter the code you see on the image, and click on Search
