A Home Ministry official said, reported PTI, they discussed the forthcoming panchayat elections which are expected to be held later next month.

The panchayat elections will take place to elect 4,130 sarpanch and 29,719 panch.

The last elections were held in 2011.

In 2016, the election to the local bodies was supposed to be held. However, unrest in the valley postponed the same.

On Monday, Malik called on President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

On August 23, replacing N N Vohra, he took oath as the 13th governor of J&K.

It may be recalled that just a few months before the Lok Sabha elections 2019, BJP pulled out support from PDP in June this year.

Opposition parties alleged that the move is taken keeping in mind the general elections.
