On Wednesday, authorities seized Rs 1.80 crore in cash from the son of a BJP candidate in Arunachal Pradesh and a former legislator at a government guest house in East Siang district's Pasighat town, officials said.

The money was seized from two vehicles parked at the guest house, Additional Chief Electoral Officer Kanki Darang said, adding that it was the largest seizure of cash in the state.

In another related but different development, suspicious deposits and withdrawals were taking place in banks in the North East ahead of the Lok Sabha elections 2019, a senior Income Tax Department official said on Wednesday.

Likewise, police seized unaccounted money totalling Rs 2.10 crore from the car of a VCK functionary at a toll gate near Perambalur on Wednesday.

A police team initially found nothing in the car but when they thoroughly checked it they found currency notes stacked in seats and concealed in door panels, police said.

The VCK's state deputy secretary Prabhakaran and a party activist Thangadurai - were travelling in the vehicle, they said.

The two were said to be proceeding to Ariyalur via Perambalur from Tiruchirappalli, they added.
