Delhi: 5 killed after truck hits vehicle carrying Kanwariyas, accused driver arrested

In a major road accident, atleast five people were killed after two vehicles collided. According to reports the vehicle carrying Kanwar collided with another vehicle. The accused driver of one of the trucks has been arrested.

One of the trucks was taking kanwar yatris (pilgrims) to Haridwar. According to Police said the truck approaching Delhi lost control, crossed the road divider and hit the other truck on its way to Haridwar. A call about the accident was received at 12.44 am, police said.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer North), Ravi Kumar Singh said a truck bearing Haryana registration crossed the central divider of GT Karnal road and rammed into the other truck carrying kanwariyas (devotees of Lord Shiva). While four pilgrims died on the spot, one succumbed to injuries later. 14 others were injured.
 
"We have registered a case under 279 (rash driving) and 304 A (Causing death due to negligence) at the Alipur police station and further investigation is in progress," the DCP said.
