You say Delhi winters are unbearable!
Welcome to Oymyakon in Siberia- the coldest village on earth where temperatures have reached such record-breaking lows that people's eyelashes have frozen and thermometers have broken.

It was so icy in the Russian village that a new electronic thermometer conked out after recording a bone-cracking minus 62C. The device was installed in Oymyakon – in Yakutia region, also known as Sasha Republic as a tourist attraction due to the extreme depths the mercury gets to in Winter.

Some residents recorded temperatures as low as -67C at their properties, in touching distance of -67.7C, the coldest-ever officially recorded for a permanently inhabited settlement anywhere in the world, and the frostiest in the Northern hemisphere.

Yet it is still some way off the coldest temperature ever recorded on the planet, which was -94.7C captured by a NASA satellite in east Antarctica in 2013.

Meanwhile, an image is going viral on social media that shows a woman named Anastasia Gruzdeva, with icy, frozen eyelashes in what looks like a scene straight out of Disney's Frozen. Let’s have a look at the image:

Many others on social media have also shared pictures of their own ice-covered eyelashes and frozen faces at Oymyakon.

On a related note, the freezing cold didn’t stop some visiting Chinese tourists stripping off and tourists taking swim, as this remarkable video shows. These heroic cold warriors won admiration from locals. Watch the video here:

The village is home to around 500 hardy people and in the 1920s and 1930s was a stopover for reindeer herders who would water their flocks from the thermal spring.

As per Daily mail, regular problems that come with living in Oymyakon include pen ink freezing, glasses freezing to people's faces and batteries losing power. Locals are said to leave their cars running all day for fear of not being able to restart them.
