From time to time, Google temporarily alters its logo to mark various celebrations. Today, in an epic turntable doodle, the search giant is celebrating the history of popular music genre Hip-Hop. This doodle has Hip Hop icon Fab 5 Freddy, former host of Yo! MTV Raps narrating the story of the music that was developed by inner city African-American in the 1970s.

The origin of this music style is as cool like its name. More than four decades ago, on August 11, 1973, a teenage DJ named Kool Herc threw back-to-school party. Instead of playing popular tunes, Herc decided to do some experiment with the music. Allowing his creatives juices to flow, the 18-year-old Jamaican-American played only instrumental or breaks sections of the music. This was completely amazing because earlier people grooved only to full songs.

The crowd loved this quirky style in which two turntables were used to extend instrumental breaks. The mad crowd danced longer as rhymes were added by his friend Coke La Rock. Coke is often credit of being the first MC or master of ceremony in the Hip-Hop history.

Hip-Hop is a mix of music and rap and is immensely popular till the date. It is this genre that gave us pop stars such as Beyonce, Rihanna, Drake and many more. Hip Hop is not just confined to music and dance but has gradually evolved into an art and style. The funky Google doodle will be available for 40 hours.
