India is among a few countries that are taking the lead in the shift to electric vehicles. The awareness programmes by the government, agencies, and companies have contributed to an exponential surge in EV uptake. But the big question around the EV infrastructure remains the same.
According to a recent report released by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) on ‘Charging Infrastructure for Electric Vehicle, the country will require a minimum of 1.32 million charging stations by 2030 to facilitate the rapid adoption of EVs.
Union Power and New & Renewable Energy Minister RK Singh said that the government is coming out with another production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme for batteries, according to a PTI report. The move will cut costs and boost the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs).
To boost EV adoption, Delhi-based EV charger maker Servotech Power Systems in an exchange filing said that it has inked agreements with IIT-Roorkee to develop onboard e-chargers for battery-operated two, three and four-wheelers and also develop rectifier units that find applications through imports.
''SPSL has signed two memorandums of understanding (MoUs) with IIT Roorkee to develop state-of-the-art rectifier units for CCS2 chargers and onboard EV chargers for two, three and four-wheelers,'' the filing said.
The NSE-listed Servotech Power Systems Ltd is a leading manufacturer of EV chargers, solar products and other items.
Earlier in August, the company had signed an agreement with the Uttar Pradesh government to set up an EV charger manufacturing plant in the state at an investment of Rs 300 crore under the Uttar Pradesh Electric Vehicle Manufacturing and Mobility Policy 2022.
