Motorola launches Moto E at Rs 6,999

New Delhi: In keeping with its commitment to bring high-end smartphones closer to the consumers, Motorola has launched yet another budget smartphone, the Moto E, in India at Rs 6,999. The device is exclusively available via online retailer Flipkart in India and will go up on sale from May 14. Moto E comes with a 4.3-inch display with 960x540p resolution. It is a dual-SIM device that is powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core Snapdragon 200 processor. The smartphone runs the latest Android 4.4 (KitKat) OS and offers 1GB of RAM and 4G internal memory. The device also supports microSD cards for storage expansion. On the camera front, the Moto E comes with a 5MP camera on the back, but does not have rear LED flash and front camera. Connectivity options include 2G, 3G, Wi-Fi, microUSB 2.0 and Bluetooth 4.0. The smartphone gets its juice from a 1,980mAh battery and Motorola claims it can last a whole day once fully charged. Moto E will come with 20 user-removable back covers. As with the Moto G, Motorola guarantees an upgrade to the next version of Android for the Moto E, something that cannot be said for most of the other smartphones in its class. The unique selling proposition of the device is its solid build quality, latest version of Android, and an overall quality experience which was earlier reserved for smartphones falling above the Rs 10,000 price range. To tempt buyers, Flipkart has announced several launch offers which include a 50 percent discount on these covers when you buy them along with the phone and 50 percent discount on 8GB Transcend memory card when you buy it alongside the device. In addition, the online retailer is also offering free eBooks worth Rs 1,000 with the purchase of the smartphone. Clearly, Moto E is a big budget launch by Motorola Mobility, which is in the process of being sold by Google to China's Lenovo, to bring specs-rich device to the low end of the market – what it calls “the next billion customers” who can't afford a smartphone—or even access the Internet. Hopefully, with Moto E, the company will finally be able to blur the line between the feature phones and smartphones.
