Wechat competitor Mxit enters India; can run on feature phones

New Delhi: Mxit, South Africa's giant mobile messaging app, has entered the Indian market. South Africa's cricketing icon and former Indian Cricket team coach Gary Kirsten is Mxit India's Brand Ambassador.Mxit (pronounced as ‘Mix it')

Mxit India chairman Roger Grobler says that 46 percent of mobile internet users in South Africa are active on Mxit every month.

Mxit is targeting a large number of people who might not be so keen on more feature-rich messaging apps like WhatsApp, WeChat, Line, and local player Nimbuzz.



Just like WeChat, the new app allows users to follow celebrities and brands, and includes games and puzzles. Mxit also works with corporates to enable internal communication, training, reporting and analytics.
