While the petrol variant, powered by a 1.8-litre engine, costs Rs 28.95 lakh, the four diesel variants are priced at Rs 22.95 lakh, Rs 25.95 lakh, Rs 29.95 lakh and Rs 32.66 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
The new Audi A3 sedan comes with two engine options. There's a 177.5bhp 1.8-litre TFSI direct-injection turbo-petrol motor mated to a seven-speed gearbox and a 141bhp 2.0-litre diesel engine paired to a six-speed automatic 'box.
Audi A3 sedan carries on the same design language like in elder siblings like the A4, A6 and A8. The A3 features Bi-xenon headlamps with LED daytime-running lamps, 17-inch alloy wheels, a retractable 7-inch display for the multimedia infotainment system, touchpad with handwriting recognition, auto dual-zone air-conditioning, electrically adjustable front seats, a rear view camera, panoramic sunroof and seven airbags, among other features.
Audi A3 sedan will be the first Audi model to be offered as a CKD right from the launch. All other Audi models such as A4,A6, Q3, Q5, and Q7 were all brought in initially as CBUs before local production commenced. King said the local production of the Audi A3 Sedan in India is continuation of the company's growth strategy and consistent focus on the Indian market.
According to Audi, the new luxury compact sedan will appeal to young Indian urban customers who want sporty looks, power, technology and innovation.
Audi India has already started local production of the model from VW group firm Skoda's Aurangabad plant.
The A3 sedan will be the first car to implement the company's new nomenclature, which classifies the cars based on the performance numbers.
Globally, Audi A3 has been a huge success and was voted 'World Car of the Year' in 2014 overcoming 23 other rivals.
