Parmeshwar Godrej, wife of Godrej Group chairman Adi Godrej passed away on Monday night. She was a well -known socialite and philanthropist.

Ms Godrej breathed her last at the Breach Candy Hospital where she was admitted recently.

According to a report in fashionscandal.com, Ms Godrej was suffering from a degenerative lung disease.

Former Pakistani cricketer Imran Khan took to micro-blogging website Twitter to break the news saying that he lost a friend. He hoped that Adi Godrej and family found strength in this time of crisis. In fact, back in 1970’s Ms Godrej was the one who introduced Imran Khan to the elite class of Mumbai.

Ms Godrej is survived by three children -- Nisaba, Pirojsha and Tanya Dubash.

One of the first Air India airhostesses, Ms Godrej hails from a Sikh family. In the year 1975, she put the hat of designer for actress Hema Malini. On her close friend Feroz Khan’s persuasion, Ms Godrej designed clothes for Hema Malini in the 1975 movie ‘Dharmatma’.   

Parmeshwar was seen as the backbone to her husband Adi Godrej, seamlessly launching marketing campaigns and doing social work. In the year 2004, she launched an initiative with Hollywood actor Richard Gere and support from Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and Clinton Global Initiative. Titled ‘Heroes Project’, the initiative aimed to curb AIDS.
