New Delhi: Japanese electronics giant Panasonic has promoted the managing director of corporation’s Indian subsidiary Manish Sharma at the position of Executive Officer roping him into a group of top officials responsible for making key decisions in company’s parent wing in Japan.
Sharma has also been appointed as the president and CEO of Panasonic's India and South Asia operations.
It is for the first time in electronic major’s a century old history that an Indian was inducted into the coveted decision-making body.
Sharma has also been appointed as the president and CEO of Panasonic's India and South Asia operations. Earlier he was the MD of Indian operations.
"The role will help me access global strategies and help drive in higher resources and new business plans for the Indian market," Sharma told TOI.
Panasonic has also appointed Daizo Ito, previously president of the Indian business, as the managing executive officer, Panasonic Corporation.
The global executive council of Panasonic is a decision-making body that shapes the company's business plans across the world. The 50-member council is dominated by senior Japanese executives and also has the global president and other board members.
This is not the first time that an Indian has been given a key global role. Last year Sony also had appointed Sunil Nayyar, sales head of its Indian business, to lead its consumer electronics business in the US.
Panasonic revenues comes around Rs 8,700 crore in India, which includes Rs 1,200 crore from the mobile division that Sharma is credited to have revived. The main business is electronics and appliances and Anchor Electricals both with total revenue of Rs 6,000 crore.
