Barbie creates history, crosses $1 bn mark at global box office
Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling's film on Sunday crossed the coveted $1 billion mark, claims Warner Bros.
The film, released on July 21 worldwide, collected $459 million in the US and $572 million in the international markets.
It was released in cinemas alongside Cillian Murphy's Oppenheimer.
With this feat, Greta Gerwig becomes the first ever woman director in Hollywood's history to achieve this milestone.
Barbie becomes the second highest grosser of the year, only behind Nintendo's The Super Mario Bros. Movie.
Barbie film revolves around the titular character and Ken who embark on a journey of self-discovery following an existential crisis.
The film is reportedly made with a budget of around $140 million.
Barbie also features Kate Mckinnon, Issa Rae Alexandra Shipp, and Emma Mackey among many others.
