Tomato price update: PV Ahmad, a wholesale vegetable dealer in Koyambedu market while speaking to media said, “There is a shortage in the arrival of tomatoes from Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh due to the heavy losses in crop due to intermittent rain in these states."
Tomato price in Chennai: The reduced arrival of tomatoes, according to the merchants, is due to the destruction of crops in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh due to heavy rain for the past few weeks in the two states.
Tomato price rise: Cooperative NCCF, NAFED have received a mandate from central govt to sell tomatoes as there has been a sharp rise in the retail prices of the key kitchen staple up to Rs 224 per kg in several parts of the country.
Karnataka tomato robbery: The incident had been reported from Goni Somanahalli village near Halebeedu town in Hassan. Farmer Dharani aka Somashekar lodged a complaint with Halebeedu police in this regard.
The government asserted that the spurt in the prices of tomatoes is a temporary seasonal phenomenon, and rates will cool down soon.
