Assam had been on the boil for the past few days as thousands of people came out on the streets to protest against the amended Citizenship Act. Agitators engaged in pitched battles with the police across various cities, forcing the administration to impose a curfew.
The Delhi Traffic Police said that vehicular movement was closed from Okhla Underpass to Sarita Vihar due to the anti CAB protests. Vehicles coming from Badarpur and Ashram Chowk were diverted to alternative routes due to blockade.

According to an eyewitness, protestors broke glasses of a cluster bus carrying passengers and set it on fire. However, no one was injured.
Violent protests erupted near Jamia Millia Islamia in Delhi and at the Aligarh Muslim University in Uttar Pradesh, while West Bengal plunged deeper into chaos on Sunday during the stir over the new citizenship law with incidents of arson and loot reported from the state and the northeast, acts which Prime Minister Narendra Modi alleged were being instigated by the "Congress and its friends".
Curfew has been relaxed in Assam's Dibrugarh from 7 am to 4 pm and Guwahati from 9 am to 6 pm on Sunday. Massive protests have been taking place against the Citizenship Amendment Act in several parts of the country.
