A recent study reveals a significant gender disparity in the Indian Medical Association (IMA) leadership. Out of 46 IMA associations, only nine are led by women, and the IMA has had just one female president since its 1928 inception.
The IMA said that the move to withdraw the essential services was taken as a mark of protest against the rape and murder of a trainee doctor in RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata.
