The decision to reopen schools, comes amid the ongoing controversy surrounding hijab ban in schools and pre-universities in the state.
Many teachers and parents pointed out that the attendance was thin when schools were last reopened due to the online teaching option and it will be difficult to make up for the learning losses if physical classes are not completely resumed.
Public spaces like cinema halls, clubs, gyms, stadiums, swimming pools, restaurants will operate at 100% capacity.
The Punjab government had earlier decided to close schools till February 8 in view of the increasing COVID-19 cases in the state.
Schools will soon resume for physical classes in states like West Bengal, Tripura, Himachal Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh, and Puducherry.
Haryana govt had earlier this month suspended physical classes in all schools amid the surge in COVID cases.
The decision comes amid severe Omicron concerns across India. Maharashtra is the state with the most Omicron cases in the country. On Monday, with two more cases detected in Nagpur, the state tally rose to 20.
Earlier the state government had announced to reopen the schools from December 1, however, after Mumbai now Pune becomes the second municipal corporation in the state to postpone the reopening of schools.
Delhi govt has also decided to allow the entry of all CNG and electric vehicles in the city from November 27.
The schools will reopen for students of classes 9 to 12, according to a notice issued by the School Education Department on Thursday evening
Cinema halls, drama theatres and auditoriums had downed their shutters following the COVID-19 outbreak in March 2020.
People who have recently recovered from Covid would also be allowed to enter the country if they had received a booster dose of vaccine approved by WHO, according to the plan.
Students of the primary section from class 1 onwards attended school in Assam for the first time in nearly two years.
Rajasthan government will provide uniforms free-of-cost to students of classes 1 to 8 studying in government schools.
The devotees will be allowed only on the basis of virtual booking system.
Schools in Goa have been allowed to resume offline classes for 9 to 12 standard students from October 18.
