A senior police officer said the accused Joel Vincent D'Souza, a local resident, allegedly raped the middle-aged British woman on June 2 when she was relaxing at the beach.
Sources said that students from Class 11 and 12, who were from influential families, were allegedly involved in the incident. A legislator's son might also be a part of the group.
DCP Benita Mary Jaiker, said that at around 5 p.m. on April 24, the victim had gone to the market to purchase vegetables. "The girl took an auto for a market which was about 2 km from her house," the DCP said.
