Lok Sabha elections 2024: The general elections for 543 Lok Sabha seats will be held in seven phases, with the first scheduled for April 19 (Friday). The counting of votes has been scheduled for June 4 (Tuesday).

BJP has decided to go solo this time and is contesting all 60 seats alone. On the other hand, Congress has formed an alliance of six political parties and named it Manipur Progressive Secular Alliance (MPSA). The coalition partners in MPSA include Congress, Communist Party of India (CPI), Communist Party of India (Marxist), Forward Bloc, Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP), and Janata Dal (Secular).
UP ministers in the contest were Surya Pratap Shahi (Pathardeva), Satish Chandra Dwivedi (Itwa) and Jai Pratap Singh (Bansi), Shree Ram Chauhan (Khajani) and Jai Prakash Nishad (Rudrapur).
The single-phase election was held to fill up 12,838 posts in 21 corporations, 138 municipalities, 490 town panchayats and 649 urban local bodies in the state. A total of 74,416 candidates including many independents entered the fray.
As many as 57,778 candidates are in the fray for 12,607 posts of ward members in 648 urban local bodies including municipal corporations, municipalities and town panchayats and the voting exercise began in over 31,000 polling stations.
For Uttar Pradesh, a total of 586 candidates are in the fray, while 301 candidates are contesting in the single-phase polls in Goa and 632 candidates are in the fray in Uttarakhand.
Moreover, all the schools and anganwadi centres will remain closed until Jan 16. The state govt has also imposed a night curfew from 10:00 pm to 6:00 am.
Chidamdaram is the Congress' senior election observer for the Goa Assembly polls due early next year.
Nadda had earlier visited the state in October this year. BJP came to power in Manipur for the first time in 2017.
The elections in Goa, where the BJP is currently in power, are due early next year. Addressing a BJP workers' convention at Valpoi Assembly constituency in North Goa, Nadda praised the Pramod Sawant-led Goa government for its performance.
CPI (M) state secy Jiten Chaudhary also alleged that the ruling party was indulging in voter intimidation in south Tripura district and obstructing party workers from functioning freely.
Congress has appointed 10 vice presidents, 19 general secretaries, 34 secretaries, 21 executive members and 19 permanent invitees to the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee.
