Nitin Jairam Gadkari is an Indian politician and currently serving as Minister for Road Transport & Highways, Shipping and Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation in the Government of India. He was born on 27 May 1957 in Nagpur to Jairam Gadkari and Bhanutai Gadkari. He completed M.Com. and L.L.B. from University of Nagpur. During his teens, he worked for the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha and the student union Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad. Gadkari had served as the President of the Bharatiya Janata Party from 2010-2013 and as State President of Bhartiya Janata Party, Maharashtra. Nitin Gadkari contested 2014 Loksabha election successfully from Nagpur constituency by defeating Congress leader Vilas Muttemwar. Nitin Gadkari had served as the Minister of Public Works Department (PWD) of the Government of Maharashtra from and restructured it from top to bottom. He was also the president of the Maharashtra BJP. He is also known for the works during his tenure as a Public Works Department Minister in the state of Maharashtra when he constructed a series of roads, highways and flyovers across the state including the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, India's first six-lane concrete, high-speed, access controlled tolled expressway.
