Farmers Protest: SKM forms five-member committee for dialogue with govt on pending demands
The Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) on Saturday formed a five-member panel for dialogue with the government on their pending demands including MSP, compensation to kin of farmers who died during the movement against the agri laws and withdrawal of cases against the protesters, farmer leader Rakesh Tikait said here. Farmer leaders Balbir Singh Rajewal, Ashok Dhawle, Shiv Kumar Kakka, Gurnam Singh Chaduni and Yudhvir Singh were named the members of the committee after a meeting was held here by the SKM.

The farmers' agitation will continue till their demands, including a legal guarantee for MSP, are fulfilled and also until the Centre holds parleys with them, Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) leader Rakesh Tikait said. BKU national spokesperson said they (BJP government) announced repealing of the three farm laws, but it will not solve the issues. There are several issues of farmers that need to be resolved. "The farmers' protest will continue till the central government resumes talks on their demands, including Minimum Support Price (MSP) guarantee law," Tikait said.

Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar on Sunday countered NCP President Sharad Pawar and said that the new farm laws will not affect the current MSP system and mandis. His response came a day after Pawar claimed that the Centre's agriculture laws will adversely impact the Minimum Support Price (MSP) procurement and weaken the 'Mandi'system.
Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Prakash Javadekar briefed about the decisions which took place in the Cabinet Meeting. After the 5th round of Centre-farmers talks on Saturday, Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar once again assured farmers that MSP will continue and that there is no threat to it. However, the talks remained inconclusive once again and it was decided that the next meeting will talke place on December 9.

The meeting between protesting farmers and the government over the new farm laws concluded without any decision on Tuesday. The next round of meeting will be held on Thursday, December 3. During the meeting, which was held at the Vigyan Bhawan in Delhi, the government put forward a detailed presentation before the farmer leaders on Minimum Support Price (MSP) and Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC) Act. The government also offered the farmers to constitute a committee that would include their representatives, government members as well as agricultural experts to discuss the new agricultural laws.However, the farmer leaders turned down the proposal.
