The Ministry of External Affairs organises the Mansarovar yatra from June-September each year through two different routes -- Lipulekh Pass (Uttarakhand) and Nathu La Pass (Sikkim). Kailash Mansarovar is in Tibet.
A total of 56 pilgrims were headed to Mansarovar on this route. As per the officials, six of eight pilgrims, who left the Yatra, have blamed bad roads in the upper Himalayan region.
VK Singh also noted that the Kailash Mansarovar yatra via Nathu La was not undertaken last year after the Chinese government cited “unfavourable conditions” to ensure the safe and smooth conduct of the yatra on this route.
China has agreed to allow Indian pilgrims to Kailash-Mansarovar through Nathu La in Sikkim after the route was closed last year in the wake of the Doklam stand-off.
China last week refused entry to 47 Indian pilgrims who were scheduled to travel to Kailash Mansarovar through the Nathu La pass in Sikkim.
