Fire broke out at TMC MLA Madan Mitra's residence in the Bhabanipur area in south Kolkata on Tuesday morning.
The fire on the 13th floor of the New Koilaghat building on Strand Road, which houses offices of the Railways at Kolkata's Strand Road claimed the lives of four firefighters, two railway officials, an assistant sub-inspector of Kolkata Police, a Railway Protection Force official and a security person.
Most of those killed are first responders -- four firefighters, one assistant sub-inspector posted at the Hare Street police station and an RPF personnel, officials said.
Railway Minister Piyush Goyal has set up a high-level committee to ascertain the cause of the fire at an Eastern Railway office building in Kolkata in which nine people were killed on Monday.
The fire broke out on the top floor of the 13-storied building here on Monday evening, according to a fire official. Fire tenders were pressed into service to douse the blaze at the building.
The warehouse, located adjacent to a computer store and an eatery on Khetra Das Lane, was used for storing computer goods, they said.
