Northeast Delhi has been witnessing violent communal clashes over the amended citizenship law, with the death toll rising to 27. The Delhi Police struggled to check the rioters who ran amok on streets in last few days
Setting an example of Hindu-Muslim brotherhood, an elderly muslim man was escorted thought the lanes of violence-hit northeast Delhi's Bhajanpura Chowk by few hindu youth so that he could reach his home safely. The man, along with his two children was heading towards his home in Bhajanpura Chowk, when he lost his way and was helped by the youth protesting at the site.
A bench of justices S Muralidhar and Talwant Singh was hearing plea seeking lodging of FIRs and arrests of those involved in the ongoing communal violence in parts of northeast Delhi over the Citizenship (Amendment) Act.
"Some Waris or 'Lawaris' (literally meaning orphan) gets up and says that the 100 crore are no match for the 15 crore. Who is this Waris or 'Lawaris' who says that the 15 crore are more than a match to the 100 crore. Our Hindu community is tolerant and hence India takes along everyone," Devendra Fadnavis said.
Meanwhile, the Delhi police have also shared the contact numbers of police personnel who are at various hospitals for those desirous of seeking information on victims admitted following communal violence in the northeast part of the national capital.
Observing that the violence in Delhi is akin to a "horror film" depicting the grim reality of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, the Shiv Sena on Wednesday said the "bloodbath" has brought disrepute to the national capital like never before while US President Donald Trump was in India with the "message of love".
Meanwhile, in a midnight hearing, the Delhi High Court directed police to ensure safe passage to government hospitals and emergency treatment for those injured in the communal violence erupted in northeast Delhi over the amended citizenship law.
The violence, which started on Sunday after anti-CAA protests blocked a road outside Jaffrabad Metro station and BJP leader Kapil Mishra called a gathering in favour of CAA, intensified on Tuesday, despite shored up security in the city.
Ratan Lal belonged to Fathepur Tihwali village in Rajasthan's Sikar district and is survived by wife and three children. The Sikar resident had joined the Delhi Police on post of constable in 1998. He married a Jaipur resident in 2004. Lal was the eldest with two younger brothers. His siblings used to work as farmers.
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday requested Union Home Minister Amit Shah to increase police force in violence-affected areas in northeast Delhi and held a meeting with AAP MLAs and officials to discuss measures to restore peace.
