The Amarnath Yatra this year will begin July 1, and go on for 46 days, it was announced here on Thursday.
The 60-day annual yatra commenced from the twin routes of Baltal in Ganderbal district and Pahalgam in Anantnag district of the Valley on June 28.
"The pilgrims left Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas here today in an escorted convoy of 18 vehicles for the Valley. This includes Yatris going to both Baltal and Pahalgam base camps," the police said.
A small batch of 454 pilgrims on Tuesday left for Kashmir Valley as the annual Amarnath Yatra resumes. This includes pilgrims going to Baltal and Pahalgam base camps.
People in the Valley are being told that it is for their betterment and are being misled by being informed that it is for the interest of the state, the BJP said.
He also visited the Nagrota military station, where he was updated by the White Knight Corps Commander on the prevailing security situation and the arrangements made for Amarnath Yatra in view of the recent threats by the terrorist groups, he said.
The accident occurred near Dherma bridge in Mallard area of Udhampur district at around 5.30 am whenthe driver of the tempolost control and hit the parked truck.
A convoy of 67 vehicles heading for Baltal for their onward journey through the 12-km arduous track was the first to leave with 1,822 pilgrims, including 476 women, and was followed by second convoy of 128 vehicles with 3,322 pilgrims including 544 women and 203 sadhus who had opted the 36-km traditional Pahalgam route.
The protest shutdown was called to mark the second death anniversary of Hizbul commander Burhan Wani who was killed along with his two associates by the security forces on this day in 2014 in Anantnag's district's Kokarnag area.
The yatra was suspended on Wednesday on both routes in the wake of landslides and shooting stones at several places and intermittent rains in the Yatra area.
Home Minister Rajnath Singh could not visit the cave shrine as Amarnath Yatra remains suspended. Srinagar has been receiving heavy rainfall since early Thursday.
Five people, including four men and a woman have been killed, while three others have been injured.
The death toll in this year’s yatra has gone up to six including three pilgrims, one BSF officer, one palanquin carrier and one yatra volunteer.
The first group is headed for the Pahalgam base camp while the other proceeded to Baltal.
Officials said over 5,000 pilgrims from various parts of the country had reached Jammu to participate in the yatra.
The holy pilgrimage was suspended from both Pahalgam and Baltal routes due to heavy downpour in the last two days.
Landslides at multiple places have damaged the Kali Mata track, a police official said. This has further forced the suspension of the yatra from Baltal route
The Amarnath Yatra will conclude on 26 August to coincide with Raksha Bandhan festival.
The yatra was flagged off in at around 5 am today by BVR Subramanyam, Chief secretary J&K, BB Vyas Advisor to J&K Governor and Vijay Kumar, Advisor to J&K Governor.
