India's Preeti Pawar clinched the women's 54kg boxing gold medal at the Commonwealth Games 2026 after outclassing Canada's Scarlett Savannah Delgado with a commanding 5-0 unanimous decision in the final on Saturday, August 1. It was India’s sixth gold medal in this edition of the Games.
The Indian boxer dominated all three rounds, with each of the five judges scoring every round in her favour. Preeti swept the opening round 5-0 to establish early control before producing another unanimous 5-0 verdict in the second. She maintained her composure and accuracy in the final round to complete a clean sweep, earning a third consecutive 5-0 score and sealing the gold medal in emphatic fashion.
Preeti dictated the contest from the outset with sharp combinations, disciplined footwork and effective counter-punching, leaving Delgado struggling to break through the Indian's defence. The unanimous verdict capped a flawless performance and underlined Preeti's superiority throughout the bout.
The victory adds another major title to an outstanding season for the 22-year-old, who had already captured the World Boxing Cup and Asian Championships crowns earlier this year. She arrived in Glasgow as one of India's leading medal prospects and lived up to expectations by remaining unbeaten throughout the competition.
Notably, Preeti had booked her place in the final after a dominant 5-0 semifinal win over Zambia's Catherine Mwape. She controlled that contest from start to finish, earning unanimous scores in every round to guarantee India at least a silver medal before upgrading it to gold with another one-sided display against Delgado. Canada's Delgado reached the title bout after defeating England's Lauren Mackie 4-1 in the other semifinal.
Jaismine Lamboria wins gold too
Jaismine Lamboria defeated Michaela Walsh in the women’s 57 kg category to win the gold medal. She secured India’s seventh gold medal in the Commonwealth Games. The match took place right after Preeti’s gold medal contest.
Notably, Jaismine also won by a unanimous decision. After the announcement, both athletes hugged and Jasmine even raised Walsh’s hand for her to take all the appreciation.
When it comes to the contest, it was a close contest, but Jasmine ultimately had the last laugh.
