India's Shiv Kapur and Nicolas Colsaerts of Belgium share the halfway lead after the second round of the KLM Open in the Netherlands on Friday (10th September).
Colsaerts followed his opening career-best round of 62 with a consistent level par 70, while Kapur climbed up the leader board with is two-under-par round of 68 which included three birdies and a solitary bogey.
Christian Nilsson, Jean-Francois Lucquin and former Major winner Todd Hamilton lead the chasing pack at seven-under-par following day two.
Less than 20 kilometres north of Utrecht, day two of the KLM Open at the Hilversumsche Golf Club on Friday was marred by driving rain which made the conditions challenging for the golfers on the course.
It was still dry when Joost Luiten played the shot of the day, his third shot at the 16th hole bouncing on the far side of the green before spinning back and straight into the hole for a birdie three - a great recovery given that his tee shot had landed him in the rough. He finished his round in 69, one-under-par, to leave him at six-under-par and leave him as the leading Dutchman at the half way stage of the tournament.
Also at that mark is the USPGA Champion, Martin Kaymer of Germany. This birdie attempt at the par four eighth glanced past the side of the hole, but he still had three birdies on his card to record his second straight round of 67, three-under-par.
Christian Nillson from Sweden currently lies 138th in the race to Dubai but enjoyed an impressive five-under-par round of 65. He lies at seven-under-par overall, but needs to sustain that level of performance over the next two rounds in order to boost his chances of keeping his European Tour card into 2011.
Todd Hamilton, a former Open Champion, also made it back to the club house in 67. This good approach shot at the eighth left him within striking distance of the hole, but he missed the subsequent birdie putt and had to settle for a par four. He lies at seven-under-par and is still well placed overall.
Also at the eighth hole,Jean Francois Lucquin made this great shot out of the rough which curved towards the hole leaving him with a short putt for birdie as he finished his round in 67. He also lies at seven-under-par after two days.
But two players are currently out in front, Nicolas Colsaerts and Shiv Kapur. Colsaerts hit a superb second shot to the 15th in his round of 70 to battle back superbly from his disappointing double bogey at the 14th hole.
Kapur sank this putt at the 17th hole as part of his round of 68 The Indian is 105th in the race to Dubai and is another player in need of a good result to ensure he'll be playing European Tour golf in 2011. AP
