Special 'red carpet' welcome awaits track queen Hima Das in Guwahati

For her welcome at the airport, special arrangements have been made as the airport floor has been converted into a race track with the help of a unique red carpet.

The Asian Games 2018 was a dream tournament for Hima Das as she won one gold and two silver medals.

Sprinter Hima Das, who was one of India's star performers at the recently-concluded Asian Games 2018, is all set to return to her hometown Guwahati, Assam after the Asiad glory. The Assam government has special plans in place to felicitate the teen athlete who won three medals at the Games held in Jakarta and Palembang. According to reports, Chief Minister of Assam, Sarbananda Sonowal, will himself receive Hima at the airport later on Friday.

She will then head to Sarusujai Stadium and on the way, she will stop at the Dr. Bhupen Hazarika Samadhi Kshetra Memorial for a few minutes. Later in the evening, the star athlete will be felicitated at the Srimanta Sankaradev Kalakshetra.

For her welcome at the airport, special arrangements have been made as the airport floor has been converted into a race track with the help of a unique red carpet which has race tracks details printed on it.

Hima will fly back with her coaches Nipon Das and Nabajit Malakar as she posted on her Twitter. "Really excited to fly back home with my coaches Nipon Das and Nabajit Malakar, " she posted.

Earlier on Wednesday, Hima met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Sports Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore alongside other medalists in Delhi.

The Asian Games 2018 was a dream tournament for Hima as she won one gold and two silver medals. The 18-year-old athlete was on a record-breaking spree in Indonesia as she set a national record with the timing of 51.00 seconds to qualify for the 400-meter final, where she again broke the same record to come second with a timing of 50.79. Hima won another silver in the mixed team 4x400m relay event while she bagged a gold in the women's 4x400m relay event.
