India keeper-batter Rishabh Pant hurt his hand and was forced to sub out in the 34th over of the match. He had already received treatment for the same hand earlier in the session and looked visibly in pain after the ball once again hit his hand while collecting it. The physio rushed immediately and attended to the 27-year-old as a cooling spray was applied after checking the extent of the injury.
After the spray, Pant was also handed a drink by the physio, signalling continued concern over his condition. Dhruv Jurel was immediately signalled, who was already on the sidelines, and the youngster then eventually replaced him in the middle. Meanwhile, the Indian camp will be keeping a close watch on Pant’s status, given his key role in both keeping duties and middle-order batting.
No serious injury for Pant
Pant hasn’t suffered any serious injury. During commentary, there were talks about a possible finger injury, but no such things were noticed, and the Haridwar-born is expected to continue in due course. The team management hasn’t released any details about Pant so far, but more is expected to come to light after the game, when someone from the team will attend the press conference.
England rebuild after shaky start
After losing two wickets in the first session, England managed to keep the scoreboard ticking in the second. Joe Root and Ollie Pope struggled for a while, but the Indian bowlers couldn’t get the better of them. The former England captain, Root, went on to score a half-century and also, became the first cricketer to complete 3000 runs against India in Test cricket.
Pope, on the other hand, was under pressure after flopping in the first two Tests. However, he showed pedigree and remained unbeaten for 44 runs after the second session.
