New Delhi: India suffered a huge blow after their in-form opener Shikhar Dhawan was today ruled out of the T-20 series against South Africa. Shikhar's chances of making it into the one day team will also depend on how quickly he recuperates from his injury.

Dhawan, who opens the batting for Team India, will be definitely missed by ODI and T20 skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Dhawan will not be a part of three T20 matches.

Earlier, Dhawan had injured his right hand during the first Test at Galle. He was fielding at the slip cordon when he received the injury while trying to take a catch.

He underwent further tests that confirmed a hairline fracture in his hand. He would require four to six weeks to recover from the injury," a BCCI media release said.

Dhawan, who scored a century in the first innings of the first teat match against Sri Lanka, batted with a swollen knuckle after he dropped a catch standing at the first slip. The batsman was Kaushal Silva and bowler was Varun Aaron.

In fact, the injury was the reason that Dhawan could not play his natural game on the fourth morning as he was stuck on his overnight score for 36 balls, not being able to pack a punch in his drives.
