In a major development, the ICC (International Cricket Council) has come forward and announced sanctions for India batter Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sri Lanka’s Asitha Fernando after the duo were involved in an altercation with each other on day 1 of the ongoing second Test.
It is worth noting that Jaiswal was dismissed for 45 runs in the first innings, and as he was walking back to the pavilion, he exchanged some words with Fernando, which got the experts and the fans talking about the moment.
On the second day of the Test, the ICC has come forward and revealed that both Jaiswal and Fernando have been found in breach of Article 2.12 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel. It is worth noting that the article relates to “inappropriate physical contact with a Player, Player Support Personnel, Umpire, Match Referee or any other person (including a spectator during an International Match).”
Both Jaiswal and Fernando have been fined 25 per cent of their match fees and have been handed one demerit point each as well.
India continue to pile on the runs against Sri Lanka
Speaking of the game between India and Sri Lanka, the side’s dominant show with the bat has continued on the second day of the clash. It is worth noting that Devdutt Padikkal’s 117-run knock and Shubman Gill’s half century among some other showings, saw India post 300 runs on the loss of five wickets at the end of the first day.
As day 2 began, the visitors lost the wicket of Saransh Jain. However, the duo of Dhruv Jurel and Rishabh Pant continued to pile on the runs for the side. While Pant departed on a score of 63 runs, Jurel went into the third session unbeaten on a score of 95. By the time of tea, India found themselves on a score of 475 on a loss of eight wickets. If rain lets up and a third session is possible in Colombo, the Indian team will hope to further pile on the runs, and it could be interesting to see if Dhruv Jurel can complete his century as well.
