Team India is putting in a brilliant performance against Sri Lanka. The two sides met in Colombo for the second Test of the series. On day 1 of the clash, India posted a total of 300 runs with the loss of five wickets to their name. With day 2 rolling around, the performance of Dhruv Jurel has stood out for India.
The star batter came out to bat in the latter stages of the opening day but quickly settled at the crease and completed his half-century as well. Despite having a plethora of talent with the bat, Jurel continues to bat in the lower middle order for the Indian team.
Speaking on the same, former India cricketer Saba Karim took centre stage, questioned Dhruv Jurel's batting position, and backed him to bat higher in the order in the future. On day 2, Jurel has been exceptional for the Indian team. By the 131st over, the star batter was on a score of 91 runs in 154 deliveries, rapidly approaching his century.
"India must look for as big a score as possible to avoid batting again or be in a position to set a huge target if they bat again. I was surprised Dhruv Jurel didn't come ahead in the batting order. But he is still batting, and there is plenty of batting still there with Saransh Jain, Manav Suthar and hopefully a fit Rishabh Pant. So India should definitely look at a score of around 450,” Karim told the Sony Sports Network.
Karim heaped massive praise on Devdutt Padikkal as well
Furthermore, Saba Karim opened up on the performance of Devdutt Padikkal. Scoring 117 runs to his name, Padikkal was the star of the show on day 1 of the second Test and his performance was crucial as India posted 300 runs on the first day.
"He (Padikkal) was the highlight of Day 1. No.3 is a position with many competitors. He has shown he has the technique and the temperament to score big on such surfaces. And at No.3, consistency matters the most, and he's showing that," said Karim.
