Virat Kohli wants key India pacers to skip IPL and focus on World Cup

India captain Virat Kohli has requested the Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) that key India fast bowlers like Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah and other should be allowed to skip the cash-rich Indian Premier League (IPL) next year so that they remain fit for the 2019 World Cup in England.

According to a report in The Indian Express, in a meeting with the CoA, which was attended by Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Ajinkya Rahane, coach Ravi Shastri and chairman of selectors MSK Prasad, Kohli suggested that India's front line fast bowlers who are in fray for the next year's marquee event should be allowed to skip the IPL 2019.

However, the report said that "no final decision has been made in this regard".

The 12th edition of the IPL is likely to start in the first week of April and will go on till the third week of May. Meanwhile, the World Cup will begin in England from May 30 to July 14.

The team management also recommended that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) should compensate the players who would miss the IPL, added the report in The Indian Express. There was also a different suggestion that these players can either take part in the first or second half of the league.

The report further stated that the CoA has consulted IPL chief operating officer Hemang Amin regarding the matter, who in turn said that the franchises need to be informed before hand about any such move.

The window for player transfers closes on November 15 and the such decision could well see a disagreement between the BCCI and the franchises that spent huge amounts in signing the players.
