MS Dhoni receives Padma Bhushan, leaves Twitter awestruck

MS Dhoni receives the Padma Bhushan on the same day he led Team India to lift the 2011 World Cup which has left Twitter in awe.

MS Dhoni's match-winning six helped India win the ICC World Cup after 28 years and seven years later on the same day, 'Captain Cool' was conferred with the prestigious Padma Bhushan Award at the Rashtrapati Bhawan on Monday. The former skipper added another feather to his cap and another jewel to his list of accolades. Twitter was left awestruck after Lieutenant Colonel MS Dhoni was presented with the award by the President of India, Ram Nath Kovind.

The 36-year-old Ranchi-based batsman came to the ceremony in his Lieutenant Colonel uniform and walked like an army personnel to receive the honour. Dhoni was conferred with the honorary Lieutenant Colonel rank by the Indian Territorial Army on November 1, 2011, after India's World Cup glory.

Dhoni has been regarded as one of the most successful Indan captains and his legacy continues to inspire millions as the 36-year old is not finished yet as he intends to stick around till the 2019 ICC World Cup.

Dhoni became the second Indian captain after 1983 World Cup winning captain, Kapil Dev, to be conferred with the Padma Bhushan.

Despite Dhoni retiring from Test cricket in 2014, the 36-year old had received the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award in 2007 and the Padma Shri, the fourth-highest civilian award in 2009.

The cricket fraternity showered congratulatory messages for the former skipper on being conferred with the Padma Bhushan.

Team India coach Ravi Shastri is a man of few words but post for the wicket-keeper batsman is as powerful as it gets. Here's what the coach had to say. 'Proper Legend. It's earned not demanded. God bless, Ravi #PadmaBhushan #MSDhoni'.

Former swashbuckler VVS Laxman was filled with pride on seeing Dhoni in the territorial army uniform."It was absolutely wonderful to see the pride with which @msdhoni wore his Territorial army uniform while receiving the well deserved #PadmaBhushan today, exactly 7 years after we won the 2011 World Cup. Heartiest congratulations !".

Virender Sehwag congratulated the former skipper by stating,:"The march past, the salute, the holding of the certificate, everything done so beautifully. Congratulations Lt. Colonel MS Dhoni of 106 Para TA Batallion on the #PadmaBhushan !

Spinner R Ashwin congrats the skipper on the anniversary of the World Cup triumph. "Congrats @msdhoni on your Padma Bhushan award. Fittingly given on the anniversary of our WC triumph. I am sure more such honors are on the way. #PadmaBhushan #MSDhoni".

Mohammad Kaif dropped a message for Dhoni as well."Congratulations Lieutenant Colonel MS Dhoni on receiving the Padma Bhushan, 7 years to the date since we won the World Cup !".

Spinner Amit Mishra said, "Congratulations MS Dhoni on receiving Padma Bhushan !".

All-rounder Kedar Jadhav also wished the former skipper. "Thala Dhoni receives Padma Bhushan Award from the President.. Proud of you captain! It’s time to add one more trophy to his cabinet! What say?".

Harbhajan Singh had his say as well, "Congratulations Col @msdhoni on receiving the Padma Bhushan..wish you and family all the happiness".

Dhoni will take charge once again as he leads Chennai Super Kings in the 11th edition of the Indian Premier League and will take on Mumbai Indians in the opener on April 7.
