KKR vs CSK: Chennai (162/5) beat Kolkata (161/8) by 5 wickets at Eden Gardens

19.47 IST: The chase of 161 began in spectacular fashion with Faf du Plessis setting the pace early on with a flurry of boundaries. His opening partner, Shane Watson, though did not last long and in came, Raina to replace him. The southpaw kept peppering the boundaries at frequent intervals and also kept the singles and doubles coming to ensure the required run rate never got out of control. Though wickets fell around him, he did not play false shots and eventually made sure his side ended up on the winning side.

19.29 IST: Sunil Narine to Suresh Raina, FOUR! Poor length from Narine and it's punished by Raina. He immediately rocks back to a short delivery and pummels it through mid-wicket for a boundary. Can he see Chennai through?

19.26 IST: Prasidh Krishna to Ravindra Jadeja, FOUR! Mid off is inside the circle and Jadeja goes straight. Receives a length ball in his half and has bludgeoned it past his partner at the other end for a cracking boundary.

19.20 IST: Ravindra Jadeja is the new man in

19.20 IST: Sunil Narine to MS Dhoni, OUT! It's hitting leg and the impact is also in line. Dhoni will have to go and this is a massive moment in this match. Narine has hunted down the prized scalp. A well disguised off spinner, pitching full on off and turning back in. Dhoni stretches forward to meet the ball but it spins back in to beat his bat and rap him on the pads. They appeal and the umpire raises his finger after thinking for a while. MS takes the DRS hesitantly but to no use. The crowd has found its voice back. 41 needed off 26 balls.

19.16 IST:Sunil Narine is going to bowl his third over

19.14 IST: MS Dhoni is feeling some discomfort in his back. The physio is on the field, giving him a gentle massage in that region.

19.13 IST: Harry Gurney to Suresh Raina, FOUR! A great wrist work by Raina. Full on leg, this is poor thinking from Gurney as fine leg is the circle and he bowls this on leg.

19.07 IST: Strategic time-out! One would believe Chennai have the slight edge chasing here! Raina is looking solid even as wickets are falling around him. Currently, his skipper, MS Dhoni has joined him out in the middle and is off the blocks as well. Chennai will coast home if these two are there till the end, Kolkata meanwhile need a couple of quick wickets to put some pressure on the Men in Yellow. 53 off 36 is the equation here. Harry Gurney to bowl after the break.

19.05 IST: Piyush Chawla to Suresh Raina, SIX! Raina is looking very good now. Wears his skates this time to reach the pitch of the ball and launches it over the bowler's head for a biggie

19.05 IST: Piyush Chawla to Suresh Raina, FOUR! Well placed! A googly on the shorter side outside off, Raina goes back and slaps it past backward point for a boundary. 100 up for Chennai, this stand is now worth 19 runs, 62 needed off 40 balls.

19.01 IST: Kuldeep Yadav to MS Dhoni, SIX! This time Mahi connects and connects superbly! Kuldeep delivers it full and on middle, turning back in, Dhoni dances down to the pitch of the ball and clears long on easily.

18.59 IST: Kuldeep Yadav to MS Dhoni, IN THE AIR........BUT SAFE! A flighted delivery on off, Dhoni dances down the track and tires to hit it over the mid on but gets an leading edge. The ball skies towards the cover region but fortunate for Dhoni it is safe. Double taken.

18.48 IST: Piyush Chawla to Kedar Jadhav, FOUR! Cheeky Jadhav! Chawla delivers a flighted ball outside off, Jadhav stays calmly inside the crease, allows the ball to come in and do its bits and then quietly opens the face his bat to run it down to third man. Gurney puts in a chase but all in vain.

18.47 IST: Piyush Chawla to Kedar Jadhav, FOUR! Jadhav opens his arms. A flighted delivery on off, Jadhav plants his front leg and lifts it above covers for a one bounce four.

18.41 IST: Strategic time-out! This match is interestingly poised at the moment. Chennai have lost both their openers and are scoring at a rate just above 6.  Piyush Chawla to resume the bowling

18.30 IST: Kuldeep Yadav to Suresh Raina, Some confusion there but no damage done! A flighted ball on middle and turning away from Raina who plays it with soft hands towards the leg side. Rayudu wants a quick runs but is sent back. He gets back in time as the keeper cannot get to the ball quickly.

18.26 IST: Ambati Rayudu is the next man in

18.25 IST: Sunil Narine to Faf du Plessis, OUT!  The mystery man strikes! That has spun in a long way to knock back the off stump! Flighted outside off, du Plessis goes for the slog sweep but misses the ball. The ball turns in a long way and goes on to the off stump. Narine does not even celebrate but this is a huge wicket in the context of the game, Faf was looking really good.

18.24 IST: Sunil Narine to bowl the last over of the powerplay

18.22 IST: Prasidh Krishna to Suresh Raina, FOUR!

18.19 IST: Prasidh Krishna to Suresh Raina, FOUR!
A short of good length delivery on middle and leg, angling in for Raina. SR flicks it to the vacant fine leg region for a boundary.

18.18 IST: Harry Gurney to Suresh Raina, FOUR! A beautiful shot by Raina! Gurney fires this one full on middle and leg, Suresh Raina just flicks it with grace towards the mid-wicket region for a boundary.

18.13 IST: Harry Gurney to Suresh Raina, NOT OUT! BIG INSIDE EDGE! Raina survives, all thanks to the DRS. Gurney, meanwhile, is bowling brilliantly. He delivers it on a length around off and gets it to shape back in just a hint. Raina is on the back foot, trying to work it around but seems to have missed it. He is thudded on the pads, they appeal and once again the finger has gone up. Raina quickly takes the referral and gestures to his partner that he has hit it. The replays roll in and some wood is detected by the Snickometer.

18.11 IST: Suresh Raina is the new man in

18.10 IST: Harry Gurney to Shane Watson, OUT! Watson is a dead duck in front of the wickets! Gurney delivers a length ball from 'round off and gets it to angle in from outside off. Watson is rocked on the back foot, probably not expecting it to come in, as he tries to defend. It skids back in off the surface to hit him on the back leg. They appeal and the finger goes up immediately. Watson starts to walk back, du Plessis stops him and they have a little bit of chase about the DRS but then decide against it. Good call! The replays confirm that it's plumb. First blow to Chennai in this run chase as Watson's inconsistent run this season goes on.

18.08 IST: Andre Russell to du Plessis, FOUR! CSK 29/0 in 2.5 overs

18.08 IST: Andre Russell to du Plessis, FOUR! Faf is setting Eden on fire here. A length ball on middle, du Plessis paddles it fine on the leg side for a boundary. Three on the trot, Chennai off to a flier here. CSK 25/0 in 2.4 overs

18.08 IST: Andre Russell to du Plessis, FOUR! Two in two! This is even better. A length ball on middle, pulled away through mid-wicket again but this time all along the carpet. Excellent shot, almost sped to the rope as soon as the ball went off the bat. CSK 21/0 in 2.3 overs

18.07 IST: Andre Russell to du Plessis, FOUR! Pulled away! Was dug in short on middle, du Plessis is ready for it and pulls it in front of square leg and through to the fence on a single bounce. Was in full control. CSK 17/0 in 2.2 overs

18.05 IST: Harry Gurney to Shane Watson, A back of a length delivery angling in for Watson, SW tries for a back foot punch but misses the ball. It hits him above knee rolls on his pads.

18.00 iST: Prasidh Krishna to Faf du Plessis, FOUR! That is easy pickings for a player of Faf's caliber! A really full ball, almost yorker length. Du Plessis gets his bat down in time and just angles it away through square leg for a boundary. Both batsmen off the mark with fours!

17.57 IST: First ball and four! What a way to start! Full face of the bat and Watto is up and away with a boundary. Fuller length on middle, driven back past mid on by Watson and there is no stopping that one. Excellent presentation of the bat. CSK 4/0 in 0.1 overs

* Right then, a target of 162 at the Eden Gardens for Chennai to win the reverse fixture as well. Their batting has been inconsistent but somehow has done enough to take the yellow team home. Will they do the same again? Or will Kolkata have the quality in their bowling to restrict them? Do join us in a short while to find out.

17.52 IST: Kolkata initiated brightly after being put into bat. Chris Lynn was in top gear from the word go and he took Deepak Chahar, the best bowler for Chennai in the Powerplay before this match, to the cleaners.

17.46 IST: Excellent bowling effort by Chennai at the back end of this innings. They gave away just 28 runs in the final five overs and picked up three wickets too. That completely spoiled Kolkata's hope of maximizing the death overs and they ended up with a below-par total on this ground.

17.41 IST: Shardul Thakur to Piyush Chawla, OUT!

17.39 IST: Shardul Thakur to Shubman Gill, OUT!
Gill departs! Thakur hunts him down with a short ball. Gill gets on top of the bounce to play the pull shot. It appears that the connection is good but it's not good enough to take it over the rope. Jadeja takes the catch safely at deep mid-wicket. Koklata's innings just failed to get going at the death.

17.36 IST: Shardul Thakur to bowl the last over

17.31 IST: Deepak Chahar to bowl his last over

17.27 IST: Piyush Chawla is the next man in

17.25 IST: Shardul Thakur to Dinesh Karthik, OUT! Fourth catch for Faf du Plessis! The ball has been following him today in the field. Thakur serves a fuller length ball outside off at 136.3 kph, Karthik strides forward to play a lofted shot, probably over covers, but ends up towering it straight up in the air at long off.  Yet another flop show from the Kolkata skipper this season. This is excellent going for Chennai at the backend of the innings.

17.24 IST: Shardul Thakur to bowl his third over

17.23 IST:A good day at the office for Imran Tahir. He finishes with figures of: 4 - 0 - 27 - 4

17.16 IST: Strategic time-out! It has been a good turnaround for Chennai. Kolkata are losing their way and have lost Chris Lynn at the wrong time. Dinesh Karthik and Shubman Gill will be key for Kolkata to reach 190 from this stage. The visitors need a flurry of wickets to make a comeback in this game. Tahir to resume after the break.

17.15 IST: Mitchell Santner to Dinesh Karthik, FOUR! In supreme control there, the KOL skipper. A full toss on middle, Karthik lifts it over the head of mid-wicket in the circle. The ball beats both the fielders in the deep and reaches the rope.

17.12 IST:Shubman Gill is the new man in

17.11 IST: Imran Tahir to Andre Russell, OUT! The big man is gone! Tahir is turning this game on its head! Kolkata has fallen silent! A flighted one way outside off, excellent ball from Tahir. Credits to him for bowling this one without being scared. Russell decides to still take on that one but ends up mistiming it. He fails to get the power and the elevation that he would have liked.

17.11 IST: Imran Tahir to Andre Russell, SIX! This is even better from Andre Russell. Flighted delivery on middle, Russell plays a slog sweep over mid-wicket for a biggie.

17.10 IST: Imran Tahir to Andre Russell, FOUR! First boundaruy for Andre Russell. Bowls a googly on middle, Russell powerfully smashes it through mid-wicket for a boundary.

17.10 IST: Andre Russell out there in the middle to a huge cheer

17.08 IST: Imran Tahir to Chris Lynn, OUT! Chris Lynn is dismissed by Imran Tahir and it's a massive breakthrough for Chennai. The Aussie was firing in all cylinders, looking very dangerous but an inspirational bowling change from Dhoni and Tahir has done the trick. He delivers a flatter ball, on middle, probably a googly, Lynn shapes up for a slog sweep but it turns in to take the inside half and goes aerial to deep square leg. Shardul Thakur makes no mistake as he slides to take a safe catch in the deep. Lynn misses out on a century but well played nonetheless.

17.05 IST: Imran Tahir to bowl his third over

17.04 IST: Ravindra Jadeja to Dinesh Karthik, FOUR!

17.04 IST: Ravindra Jadeja to Chris Lynn, SIX!
Flighted ball on middle, the ball is right under the nose of Lynn. He swings through the line and makes it three in a row. The long on fielder is a mere spectator! 18 runs off 3 balls.

17.03 IST: Ravindra Jadeja to Chris Lynn, SIX! Two in two now! A short one, dragged down on middle by Jadeja, Lynn rocks back, frees his arm before lifting this one over deep mid-wicket for a huge one. Jaddu under pressure!

17.03 IST: Ravindra Jadeja to Chris Lynn, SIX! As flat as you get them! A flatter one on middle and leg, Lynn backs away before smashing that one over deep cover. The ball goes right back over the ropes with the power on it!

17.01 IST: Mitchell Santner to Dinesh Karthik, TWO WIDES! Bowls it down the leg side, Karthik looks to go after it but misses it. It goes towards leg side. The batsmen take a run.

16.59 IST:Mitchell Santner to bowl his third over

16.55 IST: Deepak Chahar to Chris Lynn, SIX! Amazing shot from Chris Lynn. Bowls short again, Lynn pulls it over square leg for a maximum.

16.53 IST: Deepak Chahar to bowl his third over

16.51 IST: Dinesh Karthik is the next man in

16.50 IST: Imran Tahir to Robin Uthappa, OUT! Uthappa goes first ball! The Tahir train is off again! What a catch this is! Incredible athleticism from du Plessis! A flighted ball on middle and off first up to the new batsman.

16.48 IST: Robin Uthappa is the new man in

16.48 IST: Imran Tahir to Nitish Rana, OUT! Tahir is off on his train! And why not, his national team skipper has taken another catch. Another lefty holes out at long on, this time it is Rana! A flighted ball on middle and leg by Tahir, Rana wants to put pressure first ball on the bowler. He goes for the big one over long on despite there being a fielder back there. He does not enough power on it and ends up giving a simple catch to Faf du Plessis at long on. Chennai strike just when they really needed to.

16.44 IST: Ravindra Jadeja to Nitish Rana, FOUR! Terrific shot from Nitish Rana. Short and outside off, Rana cuts it through point for a boundary.

16.40 IST: Strategic time-out! Steady going from Kolkata in spite of losing a wicket. Shardul Thakur and Mitchell Santner have bowled well but same cannot be said for Ravindra Jadeja and Deepak Chahar. Chris Lynn is looking in dangerous form and he can prove to be a big thorn for the visiting team. The middle phase is about to begin and with the spinners expected to bowl maximum overs, let's see how things pan out.

16.41 IST: Imran Tahir to Chris Lynn, FIFTY! Fifty for Chris Lynn, his 8th in the League! A short delivery outside off, the Aussie cuts it towards backward point and crosses for a single. He's showing good form and would like to make a big one today.

16.38 IST: Imran Tahir to bowl his first over

16.35 IST: Ravindra Jadeja to Nitish Rana, FOUR! Nice shot. Short and outside off, Rana makes room and cuts it hard through point for a boundary.

16.32 IST: Mitchell Santner to Chris Lynn, SIX!
Caught but in the crowd! Santner flights this one and lands it full around middle, inviting the batsman there, Lynn accepts the proposal, rushes down the track and hammers it over long on. Moves to 45!

16.29 IST: Ravindra Jadeja to Chris Lynn, FOUR! Second boundary of the over. Short and on off, Lynn makes room and cuts it through point for a boundary.

16.28 IST: Rana is bowled! Wait, he was not ready and pulls out at the last moment. Jadeja has this habit of rushing through his overs. Nitish wasn't ready and is well within his rights to pull out. Jadeja though continues with his delivery stride and bowls. It breaks the stumps at the other end. Reload.

16.28 IST: Ravindra Jadeja to Nitish Rana, FOUR! Safe shot from Nitish Rana. Very full and outside off, Rana drives it uppishly through covers for a boundary.

16.24 IST: Nitish Rana is the new man in

16.24 IST: Mitchell Santner to Sunil Narine, OUT! Faf du Plessis takes it! Narine was playing and missing all along, this time he holes out! Slightly flighted ball outside off, Narine decides to take on long on but does not have enough power on this shot.

16.21 IST: Mitchell Santner to Sunil Narine, 3 WIDES! Hurled down the leg side by Santner. Dhoni again misses the collection. The ball runs fine on the leg side for a couple of runs. Free runs these for Kolkata.

16.20 IST: Mitchell Santner is on for his first over

16.18 IST: Shardul Thakur to Chris Lynn, FOUR! Second boundary of the over. Full and outside off, Lynn drives it through covers for a boundary. 9 runs have come from the over. Good over for Kolkata.

16.15 IST: Shardul Thakur to Chris Lynn, FOUR!
Nice shot from Chris Lynn. Full on middle, Lynn drives it straight past the bowler through mid off for a boundary.

16.12 IST: Deepak Chahar to Chris Lynn, FOUR! Runs are just flowing from Lynn's bat. Chahar corrects his length this time but still provides enough width outside off. Lynn rocks back and drills it through extra cover. 14 off the over, so far.

16.11 IST: Deepak Chahar to Chris Lynn, SIX! Chahar is not learning. MS Dhoni should walk up and has a chat with him, this is not looking good from him. Under tremendous pressure. He hurls in yet another short delivery on off, Lynn stays leg side of this one and pulls it mightily and all the way over mid-wicket.

16.10 IST: Deepak Chahar to Chris Lynn, FOUR! Chahar is having a very ordinary beginning today and that's a rarity. Is he trying too hard? This is not the length he generally bowls. Lands it short and outside off, Lynn stays back and pulls it mercilessly over mid-wicket. There is a fielder in the deep but still it goes to the boundary

16.09 IST: Shardul Thakur to Chris Lynn, Short of a length delivery, Lynn pulls it towards square leg for a run.

16.06 IST: Shardul Thakur  to bowl from the other end

16.04 IST: Deepak Chahar to Chris Lynn, FOUR! Chahar is losing it here. Yet another poor delivery, short and wide again, outside off, Lynn exercises his arms and slams it over covers for back-to-back boundaries.

16.03 IST: Deepak Chahar to Chris Lynn, FOUR! A very poor delivery by Chahar this time, probably it just slipped off his hand. Plenty of width on offer outside off, short and wide, Lynn chases it and slaps it over covers. It goes on one bounce to the fence. The umpire just checks it upstairs before signalling the boundary. 1000 runs in the League for the Aussie as well. A very poor delivery by Chahar this time, probably it just slipped off his hand.

16.01 IST: Deepak Chahar to Chris Lynn, Some swing straightaway for Deepak Chahar. He pitches it up and outside off, moving in the air, Lynn drives it off his front foot to covers.

15.59 IST: We are all set to begin. Michael Hussey rings the bell. The players and umpires are out in the middle. Chris Lynn and Sunil Narine will open the batting for Kolkata.  Deepak Chahar will start the proceedings for Chennai.

15.31 IST: TOSS - Chennai Super Kings win toss, opt to bowl against Kolkata Knight Riders in Kolkata

Brief Preview: Table-toppers Chennai Super Kings will look to complete the double against Kolkata Knight Riders, just like Delhi Capitals did, when the two teams clash in an IPL match on Sunday. The home side's consistency has suddenly taken a beating after two defeats on the trot, first in Chennai and then against Delhi Capitals here last night. The Knight Riders, hence, would be under immense pressure to arrest the slide when they face the mighty Chennai. Both their defeats exposed KKR's over-reliance on Andre Russell, who looked ominous, but the opponents figured out a way to strangulate the Windies power hitter to restrict the team to below-par totals.
