The BCCI has allowed Shami to play for Bengal

The BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket of India) has granted permission to Team India pacer Mohammed Shami to play for Bengal in the Ranji Trophy Elite Group B match against Kerala, which is to be played at Eden Gardens from Tuesday.

However, the BCCI has laid down certain conditions as Shami has to play in the four-match Test series against Australia. The board has imposed a few conditions that Shami can only bowl 15 overs per innings, with a 'grace' of no more than two or three overs.

Bengal have agreed with the terms laid down by the BCCI and have included the pacer in the 16-member squad which was announced on Friday.

It is learnt that Shami was as well eager to play for Bengal when he turned up at Eden on the opening day of their match against Madhya Pradesh on Monday.

Skipper Manoj Tiwary welcomed Shami back into the squad.

"India obviously comes first and we have to respect what the BCCI has said," Tiwary said after the selection committee meeting at the CAB on Friday.

"I don't think he (Shami) will need so many overs. We are confident about his ability and with the type of result-oriented pitch we are planning to play on in this match, I believe he will do the job along with the other bowlers," he stated

Shami is a part of the India Test squad against Australia as they are slated to play 4 Tests. India have never won a Test series in Australia and will hope for a change of fortune in this tour.
