Yogi Adityanath (born Ajay Mohan Bisht) is the current the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh. On 26 March 2017, he was appointed as the Chief Minister after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won the 2017 State Assembly elections. He was a prominent campaigner during the Assembly elections. Since 1998, for five consecutive terms, he has been the Member of Parliament (MP) from the Gorakhpur constituency, Uttar Pradesh. Yogi Adityanath is also the Mahant (head priest) of the Gorakhnath Math, a Hindu temple in Gorakhpur. He has held the position of the head priest since the death of his spiritual father, Mahant Avaidyanath. Avaidyanath died in September 2014. Adityanath is also the founder of the Hindu Yuva Vahini. The organization has been reportedly involved in communal violence. Yogi Adityanath has an image as a right-wing populist Hindutva firebrand. Early Life: On 5 June 1972, he was born in a Kshatriya family in the village of Panchur, in Pauri Garhwal, Uttar Pradesh (now in Uttarakhand). In Mathematics, he completed his bachelor's degree from the Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University, Uttarakhand. In the 1990s, to join the Ayodhya Ram temple movement, he left his home.
